Find Freedom from Glasses

Contact lenses give millions of people the freedom they crave from eyeglasses. If you are tired of having to wear glasses, contacts may be a good alternative for you. If you’ve ever considered trying contacts, please book an appointment at our clinic for a comprehensive eye exam and contact lens fitting. Our optometrists and opticians will determine if contacts will work for you and your lifestyle, or help you find a suitable alternative if necessary.

Contact Lens Evaluation

Before being fitted with contact lenses, your optometrist will need to assess how strong your prescription is. This is done using a phoropter and autorefractor. Your optometrist will measure how your eyes focus when different lenses are placed in front of them. Once the level of correction you will need is determined, our optometrists will discuss your needs, lifestyle, and options with you to help you determine which style of contact lenses is best suited to your needs.

Types of Contact Lenses Available

You have a wide variety of choices when it comes to contact lens styles. Our optometrists and optician are here to help you decide what will work best for you.

Soft contact lenses are popular because they tend to be more comfortable and are easier to get used to wearing than hard contact lenses. There are various types of soft contact lenses available.

Daily or weekly disposable contact lenses are designed to be worn for a specific amount of time and then discarded. The length of time they can be worn varies depending on the brand and style. These contacts are designed to be worn only during the day, so they need to be removed each night before you go to sleep.

Extended wear disposable contact lenses are designed to be worn for an extended amount of time and don’t need to be removed before you sleep. They are less common, however, since they increase the risk of getting a serious eye infection more than disposable contact lenses.

Toric contact lenses are designed to correct astigmatism and are designed for daily or extended wear. They are less effective than hard contact lenses, however, and also typically cost more than other soft contact lenses.

The most common type of hard contact lens is rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses. These lenses are made of plastic combined with other materials and generally provide clearer, sharper vision and last longer than soft contacts. However, these contact lenses have a longer adjustment period, making them a less than ideal choice for occasional contact lens wearers.

RGP contacts can be effective for patients with astigmatism, keratoconus, allergy sufferers, or who find their contact lenses are often covered in protein deposits.
